Wrap up on Technology and the Oral History Interview

On Wednesday, March 28, 2018, Paul O’Brien, former director of Technology at the Southern Berkshire Regional School District and coordinator of oral history projects with youth and veterans, taught us how to use various pieces of equipment and gave us a chance to try them out.

Participants had a chance to play with a video recorder,

a high quality audio recorder,

and their own cell phones with a gizmo that most of us had not seen: a Saramonic SmartMixer, for use with an IPhone or Android mobile device.

Paul’s workshop was offered by the Housatonic Heritage Oral History Center at BCC, with BCC’s Workforce Development and Community Education, at BCC South County Center.

Paul also talked about the absolute importance of good sound and gave us ideas for interview structure.  And, finally, he invited workshop participants to make appointments to observe the interviews he is doing with veterans.
